I was born in the sticky heat of Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in a quiet town in Surrey, UK. In 2021, I married a sausage and now go by the surname of Salami.

Presently, I live with that sausage and my mischievous son and daughter in a picturesque neighbourhood in Bedford. By day, I work in Human Resources telling adults what to do and making the workplace somewhat bearable, and by night, if I can fight sleep, I write.

In 2021, I won the Jericho Prize for a chapter book about an embarrassing Nigerian aunty, and in 2022 became a mentee with the prestigious Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency. Simi vs the New Kid is my middle-grade fiction debut.

Simi vs
the New Kid

A novel by Abimbola Salami

Book one · May 2027

When your imagination is right, and everyone else is wrong.

Simi’s not trying to be the goody-two-shoes girl her church mum wants her to be. She’d much rather be out fighting monsters like her comic book hero, Suwili the monster slayer. So when a strange new girl shows up and something about her feels seriously off, she knows she’s not imagining it. The problem? No one believes her.

Now she’s stuck getting into trouble, being labelled difficult, and trying to prove she’s right, all while secretly taking on a very real, very dangerous enemy. Because if she doesn’t stop this monster, no one else will.
